Consultant & Content Creator, Venture Guide, Mentor Program
Consulting, research, writing, and online publishing of 23-part Venture Guide in support of engineering students and faculty who want to commercialize technology innovations. Guided initial plans for a new Mentor Program.
The Need: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s new virtual entrepreneurship program seeks to encourage technology commercialization by faculty and students. The program director needed to build an extensive suite of services, including informational training materials and the ability to match up possible startups with appropriate mentors and other resources.
Services Provided: Conceptualized, researched, wrote, and published an online Venture Guide for technology startups by students and faculty. Provided basic overview information and links to local, regional, and national resources. Also assisted in defining the requirements for a formal mentorship program and working with area stakeholders to identify mentors and candidate entrepreneurs.
Impact: The Venture Guide is now being evaluated for use by other entrepreneurial centers within the University and the regional technology startup community. A new Emerging Ventures manager has been hired and is looking at the foundation we laid for the Mentor Program.
